New York: Conflicts of Ethics in Transnational Engagements

10/25/2011 (18:30)

Crowell Moring LLP // New York

On behalf of the German-American Lawyers’ Association (DAJV, Deutsch-Amerikanische Juristen-Vereinigung e.V.) we cordially invite you to join us for a panel discussion on

Multi-jurisdictional rules of ethics and professional conduct:       Coping with conflicting legal rules and privileges
in a global business environment

How do lawyers and clients comply with multi-jurisdictional ethical requirements? A clash of inconsistent ethical principles can bedevil lawyers and clients, who are trying to comply simultaneously with more than one set of rules. Are legal privileges granted by one jurisdiction negated by disclosure requirements imposed by another? Must parties comply with multiple layers of ethical requirements when negotiating international transactions?

Lawyers and clients ignore these questions at their peril as many ethical rules demand affirmative conduct. Should you make organizational changes in your law firm or business to address these issues? The DAJV invites representatives from law firms, business, academia, and government, who are interested in these issues, to discuss when such conflicts arise and what to do about them consistent with one’s ethical responsibilities.
